Our Beer Story
At Aka Aka Brewing, we love beer! We make authentic, true to style craft beer, handcrafted by one of New Zealand’s most experienced professional brewers. We’re a family-owned craft beer destination nestled in the heart of Franklin, New Zealand. Founded by Trevor Rollinson and Debbie Baker, our journey began with the goal of building our own craft brewery and sharing our passion for craft beer, all for your enjoyment.
2017 - 2018
Trev began collecting equipment for the brewery project and when it spilled from the Herald Island property garage into the driveway, it was time to relocate and get real.
Our search for a brewery site led us to Aka Aka, a 10-minute drive from the township of Waiuku and 20 minutes from Pukekohe. A lifestyle property with a commercial building - it was perfect for the brewery build.
2019 – 2023
Over the next few years, every spare moment was taken up by Trev designing, machining, welding, and assembling the brewery piece by piece, while Deb worked behind the scenes on the business stuff.
2024
We’re bringing our craft beer range to all of New Zealand, making it easy for craft beer lovers to get their dose of the best craft beer Franklin has to offer. We’ll ship it right to your door!

We are socially responsible, supporting the local community and natural habitat that surrounds us. We source and use NZ made malts.
Sustainability
We are committed to reducing our carbon footprint. Our unique kettle boiling system operates by utilising natural resources. Roof water is collected for use in our beer products and cleaning processes. Spent grain is distributed to the local farming community to make sure nothing goes to waste. Our brewery build utilised 90% recycled brewing equipment and materials.
